Family agreed to let DeLay's father die (Dallas Morning News)

CANYON LAKE, Texas A family tragedy unfolding in a Texas hospital during the fall of 1988 was a private ordeal without judges, emergency sessions of Congress or the raging debate like that outside Terri Schiavo's Florida hospice.
... Schiavo's Florida hospice.... a freak accident at his home.... The family then turned to lawyers.

Schiavo case will have lasting impact (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)

The difficult questions raised by the decision to remove the Schiavo's feeding tube promise to have an impact.
...From courtrooms to Congress to America's kitchen tables, the difficult questions raised by the decision to remove the Florida woman's feeding tube promise to have an impact.... One of the case's most obvious effects is the discussion it has generated about the importance of making - and communicating - decisions on how people want to be treated if an accident or illness leaves them impaired and unable to speak for themselves.... Some experts, such as disability rights lawyer Harriet McBryde Johnson, say it may be necessary to clarify that the Americans With Disabilities Act should protect people in Terri Schiavo's position.

A Question Of Murder (CBS News)

John Maloney, a police officer in Green Bay, Wis., was convicted of murdering his estranged wife in 1999, though he has always maintained his innocence. Did he get a fair trial? And if not, should he get a new one? Saturday at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
... Paulus said that after discarding the bloody shirt in a hamper in the basement, Maloney set the couch on fire to hide his crime . leaving behind half-smoked cigarettes to make it look like an accident.... Paulus is now serving a sentence of more than four years at a federal prison in Florida.... So why didn't Maloney's own lawyer, prominent Defense Attorney Gerry Boyle, make these arguments? "To have gone before a jury and said this was an accident, I think, would have been malpractice," says Boyle.
